Some of this is learned, but much of it is inherent. The three that come to mind are eye-hand coordination, ability to multi-task, and most importantly, the ability to make good decisions under stress. I believe there are a few attributes necessary for success as a pilot. Just like, not everybody who wants to race NASCAR ought to race NASCAR. If you are considering the possibility of becoming a pilot keep in mind that not everybody who "wants" to fly "ought" to fly. The competition is fierce among pilots, and especially in commercial operations. For every person who wants to fly, there is somebody else who wants it more. The bad news is that it's such a great job there is a lot of competition. The good news is that being a pilot is a really great job that seldom gets dull. There is no doubt that I feel blessed to be where I am at. Some of the success' in my life are a result of hard work, but many are the result of other people's generosity in my life, and my proximity to good situations. I have worked hard since I was 18 years old so that I could make a living flying an airplane, and it has been a challenging road, just like any profession. I'm old enough to have squeezed nearly 5000 flight hours under my belt, but young enough to remember how I got here.
